Lipstick: Bold Colors Aren’t Just for the Brave

Humans are undoubtedly creatures of habit… but does that really have to carry over into our lipstick choices? It seems as if once we settle on a color that works, it is rare that we’ll deviate. And heaven forbid your go-to makeup counter retire your favorite color! How will you find something as great as what you have always worn?

This Summer, its all about a bold lip. But surely that doesn’t mean it is for everyone, right? WRONG. All ages can fearlessly rock this season’s biggest beauty trend, the bold lip. So get out there, and try something new! For starters, here are 8 fabulous suggestions, with links to purchase:

Styling Solutions for Transitioning Seasons

As everyone knows, the fashion calendar operates ahead of schedule, designing for each season nearly a year in advance. Designers work with forecasted trends to develop a cohesive story based on designs derived from recent inspiration, and all the while striving to maintain an aesthetic true to their customer. The Spring and Fall collections present additional challenges in creating looks that accommodate the fluctuating seasons. Summertime in the south can be particularly challenging, but having grown up in Mississippi, the hot summer heat is something Hilton Hollis is quite familiar with, and influences his design process.

Moving from Summer to Fall can be one of the trickier transitions, but each of the collections from HILTON HOLLIS contains great pieces that serve as wardrobe staples that can be worn year-round. Check out his recent segment on dressing for the changing seasons here and here. And be sure to read how styling can give your look a season-appropriate versatility, as demonstrated in our most recent blogs about the maxi skirt, and changeability of “winter white”. We’re always looking ahead, but make sure to take time to enjoy the season at hand!

“Through the Looking Glass”: Red Carpet Favorites

The Metropolitan Museum of Art held their annual Gala last night, celebrating the opening of “China: Through the Looking Glass.” Not even the buzz of the latest exhibit could outshine that of the red carpet. While Rihanna was the widely touted “showstopper” of the evening, and there was no shortage of bare-all gowns, we favored the graceful, yet stunning red carpet looks of these well-know celebs:

10 Favorite Fashion Illustrators

Here at Hilton Hollis, we strongly value the creative process. We love to see other artists in their element, especially when fashion is involved. Fashion blends art from start to finish, but it finds fresh beginnings with pen to paper.

The intricacies of fashion illustration are a beautiful form of expression, one that allows the viewer to see inner workings of a designer’s process. Fashion illustration is an art form that is no longer reserved for the ideas swimming inside of a designer’s head. These detailed little sketches have entirely transformed the fashion blogosphere.

Many talented illustrators sketch runway looks, magazine editorials, and street style images. These sketches allow fashion to be reinterpreted into beautiful works of art. Enjoy a look at the work of our top 10 favorite fashion illustrators.

Prints That Flatter

Do you ever find yourself on the sidelines wishing you could get into the pattern play that seems to be all the rage for Spring 2015? It is easy to make excuses for every body type… Too old. Too square. Too round. Too long. The truth is, every body type can wear patterns… it’s all about how you style them!

For starters, a good jersey knit dress can flatter any body type. Our floral petal print jersey dress has a rouched waistline that is slimming as well as comfortable. The three quarter length sleeve, and the lengthened hem will cover and flatter.

If you are looking for a more neutral ground to still enjoy some fresh color with minimal pattern, our floral garden jacquard jacket is perfect. You can easily throw this jacket on over white pants or a white skirt and style it with a white silk top. It even looks great paired back to a white dress. This jacket has a structured silhouette and is perfectly tailored for the classic, yet modern woman.

If pants and a top are more your comfort zone, the orbital jacquard pants and top make for a striking combination. The fabric, imported from Italy, has an ideal stretch for fit and comfort. The seam detail on the top is extremely flattering, and easy to wear. The slimming silhouette of the pant and cropped ankle keep you comfortable and on point with trends.
